TIL: A Harvard professor experimented on 22 unwitting students, assaulting their belief systems to see what damage could be caused. One of them became the Unabomber.

via ift.tt

The way this went was: each student was asked to write an essay describing their “personal philosophy”, essentially their worldview. These essays were then given to experienced prosecution attorneys and FBI interrogators. The students were placed in a room with these people, without being told who they were, and instructed to have a conversation about their essay. Except the task given to the lawyers and interrogators was to take the student’s “personal philosophy” apart piece by meticulous piece.

This experiment was part of MK Ultra and was an exercise in destroying personalities. They were testing out and refining methods of breaking spies on unwitting college students.

Ted Kaczynski was 17 when he was subjected to this experiment. His code name in the documentation? “Lawful”

It’s the most  A E S T H E T I C thing ever…

Neon Genesis Evangelion floppy disks! These came out towards the end of the show airing, or right after. I got them off Yahoo Auctions Japan.

The Rei and Asuka disks are blank, but the Shinji disk contains icons for Rei, Asuka, and Misato. I uploaded those in case you want to make your Windows computer NGE-tastic.

It may not be a floppy in anime, but it’s floppies of anime!

CLOSE ENOUGH FOR JAZZ

Wow, the auction didn’t have Shinji’s icons? Poor little boy.

basically emotional manipulation and guilt tripping as social justice praxis is pointless and not sustainable imo. it doesn’t promote real growth or solidarity if the entire basis of your activism is stemming from guilt or fear

it’s also worth pointing out that it turns “social justice” into something uncomfortably like religion. it establishes patterns of behavior that you’re expected to follow, not necessarily because you understand them or agree with them, but because you are afraid of the consequences if you don’t. it turns communities of “activists” into self-aggrandizing moralistic pissing contests, where the pecking order is defined by who knows more of the rules, and who is more willing to enforce them on others (usually, by any means necessary). it encourages ideological purity and discourages debate, discussion, education, and subsequent individual and community growth.

you know what i really want? a modern dudebro vampire. just a typical obnoxious straight boy in a neon tank top and cargo shorts who also happens to be a creature of the night.

“okay, dude, i’m only feeding on you ‘cause i’m starving and there aren’t any hot girls around. no homo.” “wait, you’re gonna suck my blood?” “no, i’m gonna drink your blood. i don’t suck, that’s gay. don’t make this weird, bro”

“ah, i see you’re staring pensively out the window, chad. ruminating on the curse of your newfound immortality?” “nah man, it’s just… i got, like, some flecks of blood on my adidas while i was feeding and they haven’t come out…”

“we do not drink… wine.” “okay but is beer cool? and can we still smoke weed?”

he joins a 24-hour gym because being undead and allergic to sunlight is no excuse for skipping leg day. tragic music swells as he looks over his “sun’s out guns out” tanks (he has seven of them). his coven is a fraternity. someone make this happen
