al jazeera article explaining what happened here (article published 11/14/18)

KEY QUOTE FROM THE ARTICLE:

If Congress does not pass legislation protecting the tribe and the legal challenge fails, the Mashpee would be stripped of their right to exercise sovereign jurisdiction over their land.

Jessie Little Doe Baird, the tribe’s vice-chairwoman, told Al Jazeera that loss of jurisdiction would prevent the tribe from running indigenous language schools, tribal courts, and housing projects, as well as its own police.

“We have our own police force, which is important because they’re tribal citizens and since we’ve had our own police force, none of our men have been beaten or shot, which we’ve had before with non-tribal police,” she said.

[ID: a tweet from Ruth H. Hopkins @RuthHHopkins. Text reads: as you celebrate thanksgiving, know that the trump administration is taking away 321 acres of land from the Mashpee-Wampanoag, the tribe that helped the pilgrims survive and were present at the first thanksgiving. Tell legislators to support the Mashpee Reservation Reaffirmation Act. End ID]

Lakota People’s Law Project has another article with background on thisthe Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe’s website also has a link to the text of the bill, phone numbers of legislators, posters, etc.

one-time-i-dreamt:

I had this one lucid dream where a lady came up to me and said, “Don’t control the dream,” really softly. I had the same dream again a couple days later but instead of just one lady. I was surrounded by a whole group of people with glowing eyes just saying, “Don’t,” and I got so freaked out that I never tried to lucid dream ever again.

I really feel like when we sleep we just kinda cruising in another demesion.

i read a book on lucid dreaming where the author told a story of a friend who, while lucid dreaming, held a town hall meeting with all the people in the dream and tried to explain to them that this was all his dream and that they’d disappear when he woke up. They didn’t believe him at first and were concerned for his mental health and then one girl stood up and said SHE knew she was real and was scared what would happen when he woke up if he was telling the truth, and soon everyone in the room was crying and screaming and begging him not to wake up.

in the same book he told a story of when he was lucid dreaming and told all his friends in the dream that he could do whatever he wanted because it was just his dream and so he started flying and his friends got pissed and started yelling at him and jumping up and grabbing his legs and pulling him back down

Tonight at Walmart I saw a little boy ask a little girl if he could hug her because he liked her sweater. The girl (these kids looked to be about 5, MAYBE 6) said no, so the boy said “okay. I like your sweater. Bye.” And then ran back to his parents.

He said to his Dad “I didn’t hug her because she said no, but I told her I liked her sweater!” And his dad said “Cool buddy!” And they went on with their shopping trip.

If a small child understands the ‘complex’ concept of consent, and the meaning of the word ‘no’, then so should everyone else.

There is a writer, I love every work she has written so far and I comment or leave kudos every chapter/work that she had published. Is that too much? I’m feeling like a stalker.

Odds are you are now that author’s favourite reader and they have you specifically in mind when they write because they’re looking forward to your reaction to it 😀

At least, that’s how it goes for me.

I’m one of those “creepy, stalker, comments on every chapter” readers, and I have NEVER had an author complain. And why wouldn’t I comment on every chapter? If I like it enough to read it, I have something to say about it, even if it’s just “incoherent screaming” or a keyboard smash because I am so overwhelmed with emotion. My comments do get repetitive—I mean, there are only so many ways to say “this chapter ruined my life, AGAIN”, but I want the writer to know that I read it and enjoyed it and it moved me my cold, black heart.

As an author, I’m blessed with a few of those readers, and I would go to the ends of the universe to aid them if they needed me.

Dude, I absolutely think about regular commenters when I’m writing.  And believe me, I recognize all the usernames that recur more than once or twice.  I don’t care about or even consider repetitiveness in comments – I’m just thrilled to establish and maintain relationships with readers.  Like … it’s the highest compliment that I not only A) made you come back for more but B) moved you  enough to tell me about it all over again.

what the fuck kind of mindset is that? “I feel like a stalker”?!??!!?!?!? Authors are posting every day BEGGING for feedback, for “I liked this” comments, for a hint that they have readers who are enjoying their work. I see authors getting so discouraged, thinking nobody likes what they write, nobody cares, giving up on long running series. I see people just not doing long series fanfic because the comments dry up, the returns are so low, they have no indication people are reading what they write. I see people write 40k epics that take them months, and get like 5 comments on the last chapter. It’s horrible.

Who put that shitty, shitty idea in your head, that giving consistent feedback and praise to a writer somehow makes you a bad person?!?!?!?!?!

The happiest thing for me is when I see a string of kudos or comments that are all from the same person. Because that means that someone sat down, read one of my fics, and liked it so much that they read everything else I wrote.

Me: Okay! Here’s that death scene we planned!

My character, who was created for the express purpose of dying and has now decided Not To: bold of you to assume I can die

My favourite thing about this post is how everyone is using it to

1. Call themselves out

2. Call that character out

3. Call THEIR FRIENDS OUT

No one is innocent. Everyone is guilty. The character still isn’t dead

The character is not dead because they became the serial killer.
