  1. Soup.io – well-known alternative to Tumblr. Reblogging, post types, themes, collab blogs, dashboard, artsy, great community already there. Soup can auto-import everything you’ve posted on Tumblr.
  2. TypePad – Includes reblogging. Dashboard and post types similar to Tumblr.
  3. Jux – Artful posts, beautiful blogging experience

Reblogging cause one day it just may be neccessary.

It became necessary

ah yes, tumblr is “banning porn”, you know, “““porn”““, like that one time they had their bots tag basically all lesbian and trans blogs as ““““““porn”““““. i truly trust the clowns who run this website to not literally fuck this up in the most heinous way imaginable while desperately begging for apple to restore their shitty app

So if you’re thinking of chucking Tumblr in light of the latest news, Pillowfort and Dreamwidth are a couple of fandom-friendly platforms to consider.

Dreamwidth pros:  It’s an established site with a proven business model and a pre-existing community.  Cons:  Site design is old-fashioned and clunky, and there’s very little native graphics hosting capability.

Pillowfort pros:  Visually and functionally much more modern.  Easier for  Tumblr users to understand and navigate.  Cons: still in beta; very bare-bones feature wise.  Don’t know how quickly they’ll be able to develop the site or how well their business plan will work.

Both of them were established with fandom in mind and (gasp) have their users as a first priority.  Neither depend on advertisements.  Both allow NSFW content.  Both are small companies with limited staff, and so improvements/changes are likely to be slow (at least for now.)  Pillowfort looks like it could potentially combine the best features of Tumblr with the best features of Dreamwidth/Livejournal.  But it’s definitely still a beta site.  I’ve got a journal there, but I’m keeping Dreamwidth as my main personal site for the foreseeable future.
