I MEAN, this dude grew up with no actual parents because his negligent and uncaring dad barely ever visited him, and eventually straight-up abandoned him. so after stan picked him up and hired him at the shack, he started viewing him as a father figure, even though stan himself didn’t think too much of it at first.

stan made soos work his ass off every day and never paid him enough, but eventually grew genuinely fond of him, and soos knew this. they both found the family they never had in each other.

due to soos’ childhood, it makes sense why he’d be so quick to trust and seek comfort in anyone who was willing to accept him.

AND YET.

the moment stan shows signs of lying about his true identity and goals. the moment soos realized he might be a threat to dipper and mabel. he IMMEDIATELY cast aside his own feelings in order to protect the kids, even if it meant losing one of the most important people in his life.
